Communication Protocols for UAV Flying Ad-Hoc Network

  • Multi-UAV cooperation has become a research hotspot and ensuring fast and reliable communication between multi UAVs is one of its important issues. Flying Ad-Hoc Network (FANET) based on ad hoc network technology can provide reliable and real-time network communication for UAV group and becomes a good solution to solve the communication problems between multiple UAVs. Firstly, this paper analyzes the performance requirements of FANET based on the characteristics of high dynamic nodes and fast topology changes of UAV FANET. Secondly, this paper studies the multiple access protocol and routing protocol of FANET networking communication protocol from three aspects: the challenge of protocol design, the application status of existing protocols and their optimization protocols in FANET, and the protocol development specially designed for FANET. Finally, the current key research issues and future research directions of UAV FANET are summarized and prospected.
